Sunday

On Sunday we went to "the Southern hemisphere's largest mall". It was five stories and very crowded since it's the end of the month. Among other things, it had a giant outdoor play park. Unfortunately today has been cold and overcast, probably the chilliest we've ever experienced Africa.

The giant outdoor play park. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy it very much.

One of the great things about where we're staying is that there are lots of other adoptive families here, so there are lots of kids who look like Esther! It makes her squeal with joy sometimes, especially the other little South African girl who is her age!

Esther has this new thing. She is very attracted to African men with shaved heads. She will go up to them and say, "How are you? Are you from Africa?" much to their delight. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get a picture of this, but it is very funny. Whenever we pass an African person on our walks, they'll say "How are you?" and you're supposed to say, "Fine, and you?" Esther is getting very good at it! But then she tries to combine everything else she knows about herself into a single phrase after that, so it ends up sounding like this: "Helloooo! How are you? Fine? And you? Name is Esther! Esther is TWO! Esther's sister is Sylvia! How are you?" That's funny too!
