Our trip to Johannesburg and Soweto

(Esther was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.)

We visited Joburg's largest township, Soweto (SOuth WEstern TOwnship), where nearly 1 million people live. We were pleasantly surprised and encouraged by how much development there is there (compared to even only a few years ago). Even there they have an upper, middle and lower class - but the lower class there is about as low as you can get.

(By the way, we ate a buffet in a restaurant in Soweto and found out AFTERWARDS that we were eating lamb intestines.)

We also drove through one of the poorest and most overpopulated sections of downtown Joburg called Hillbrow. I have NEVER seen so many people in one place - people EVERYWHERE.
